Day 1 Emergency Services Show – complete!

Today was an absolute pleasure, focused purely on volunteering for Service Dogs UK, a registered charity, supporting both military and emergency services veterans who have been diagnosed with PTSD.

The charity can either work with an partner’s existing dog, or find a suitable match via a rescue centre, often the Dogs Trust.

PTSD sufferers have a variety of different physical ‘tells’ that indicate that they are about to become ill. The dogs are able to spot these 'tells' and provide warning and support to their partner.

The partner trains with the dog, alongside a qualified trainer, focusing on developing the skills the dog requires to support their specific needs.

The dog can also be trained to support a partner who experiences the all too common night terrors, or for instance, one who needs reminding about medication.

All of these skills are a vital support mechanism that can make a huge difference to the quality of day-to-day life, that most of us take for granted, like popping to the shops. Let's not forget, this relationship also makes a massive difference for a rescue dog too!

Great to meet lots of very skilled emergency services employees today, such as Kat Trinder Chart.PR from the National Police Air Service.

Look away now if you are not a dog lover, as Ferris did steal the show. Highly skilled, he showed his capabilities to lots of the public, but was unamused by a caged demo toy dog and took a robodog for a stroll #inyourplacelol lol! Like his owner Bryan Maddams and I, he was also very tired at the end of the day!
