Turtle Tour – mission protection for the future, in a venue steeped in history

Turtle Tour – mission protection for the future, in a venue steeped in history.
Huge thanks to Simon Collins, Growth and Innovation Director at Chemring Countermeasures for hosting Chris Wardman and I, for an overview of the company, tour and lunch. It was great to understand the company’s history, the depth of UK sovereign capability, the current market and meet some of the critical local workforce.
It is somewhat fitting that Chemring Countermeasures, an organisation focused on defending our forces and assets, is situated on a site where Spitfires were produced during the Second World War.
The Wiltshire Flying Club hangar, nestled in a stunning setting, was used for final assembly and flight, requisitioned after the factories producing Spitfires in Southampton were bombed in September 1940.
The site now proudly bears a plaque from ‘The Secret Spitfire Charity’, to honour and remember the hidden civilian army, including many local women recruited secretly, to build approximately 2,500 Spitfires in this area alone.
Looking forward to continuing our discussions.
